Publisher’s Note

This is a collection of heroes, villains and supporting characters from a brand new comic book universe.  The heroes are all Black as this is my attempt to address the lack of Black characters in comic books and to proudly and prominently tell complex and sophisticated stories that focus on the heroic depiction of Black people.

My main goal has always been to improve the quality of the images of Black people in the media.  That quality includes showing all skin tones, body types, hairstyles and ethnicities equally and without judgment as to one type being superior over another.  In this universe I have tried to include characters whose skin complexions are the darkest of the dark to the lightest of the light.  And the body types of women range from plus-size to thick to hourglass to thin.  And the men are muscle bound, lean, thin, and heavy.  Everyone is relevant, every body type and skin tone is unique, and everyone is beautiful and attractive in their own right. 

There may be more of one body type than another, more of one skin tone or hairstyle than others as well.  But this is my first go at this, give me time and I’ll keep tweaking, correcting and improving the images created by Stormbringer Studios, Inc. until we are all represented in our full spectrum of looks, body types, skin tones and hairstyles.

We are a beautiful people.  We are complex.  We are three dimensional.  And it is time we had a universe of superheroes to express this and to call our own.  So welcome to the Stormbringer Universe.  A universe where heroes are both courageous and flawed, where villains are cutthroat yet have a code, where the supporting characters are diverse and well rounded and a universe in which the only thing separating heroes from villains is context, perspective and circumstance.
